Maximillion's Glory...

Just about everyone knows Kansas is the Sunflower State. What most don't unerstand is that the sunflower held so dear by Kansans is not the large seed comercial variety that grows in neat rows and produces an oil that is good for making pop corn. It is the small wild variety that is known as Maximillion's Sunflower. In late July and August, the flower grows up in abandoned feed lots, along roadsides and fence lines. Where ever you look this time of year you see the State Flower.
