A bizzar name for a bridge...

In the middle of the Flint Hills there is a bridge that crosses the Kansas Turnpike. The bridge has a strange name written on it. I have driven under it for seven years on my way to and from Kansas City and Wichita. I have always been puzzled at the name, "Bazaar Cattle Crossing."

As it turns out, it is named for the town of Bazaar, Kansas, a few miles to the northwest. There is no exit to the town of Bazaar, so I could not get there to take pictures on this trip. I did the next best thing... I photographed the cattle corrals and loading chutes used to deliver and pick up the cattle that populate The Flint Hills and graze on the range land
all summer long.

There are also some landscapes of the surrounding area. The cattle are not there now, but if you double Click on any of these images, you can get a truer idea of the stark beauty of the Flint Hills. You can almost smell the earth and hear the wind blowing through the grass.

Beautiful post! The Flint hill are so amazingly vacant.
