After traveling to Iowa for Henry and Sam's Birthday celebration and waking up to a dead battery in the VW and freezing rain, I decided that it was a really good day to not travel. I have to go to Oklahoma City on Tuesday, so this was a good day to get new tires and a new battery in Sunny.
Robin's yellow bug is named Sunny. She named it that long before she got it. She always said she wanted to have a yellow VW and name it Sunny, so there was nothing that would keep that from happening when the yellow VW New Beetle arrived in 2004. It has run on the same battery and tires since it was new. With the possibility of her having to drive to Iowa for one birth (Kaden's little brother, Austin) and one funeral, (Robin's dear friend Ellen is in Hospice) it was time to get it done.
AAA arrived to jump Sunny and was certain that he had a battery for it, so I let him have a shot at it. 45 mins. later, while I was working in my office, he called me from the garage. "Can't seem to get this one out" he said. "I know I have changed these things before. @#$%^ German engineering! Guess I'll have to just jump it and let you get one from the dealer," he said.
For what it's worth...
If you don't have AAA and you travel at all, its the best thing going. One tow will pay the annual bill, and with Sunny's battery getting bad and the tires going flat for the last few months, it has really been more that worth it.
So I took Sunny for a new battery, new tires and a wheel alignment. He has been a pretty good car. Nothing really has gone wrong since he arrived. We had to replace the headlights, but the insurance agent said it looked like vandalism so that only cost us the deductible for two new headlights. $628 for four new 65000 mile tires, and new battery and a wheel alignment is really not bad. Especially compared to what the dealer would have charges.
So now sunny drives like a dream and we don't have to worry about coming out to flat tires or a car that won't start in February in Iowa.
Where was I? Oh yes. While the AAA guy was working on the battery, I got on line at my favorite camera website,www.keh.com, where I bought my Nikon D100. I have been wanting a professional model Nikon for a while. I found a really good deal on a Nikon D2H, and could not resist. I know, I just got the D100, and I love it, but the D2H is one of the best professional Nikon ever made. I'll post the first photos later.
